Architectural & Design Resources
Architects and Designers: Should your remodel or new construction project call for a beauty salon or facility to wash the hair of residents, the Adjust-a-Sink is a necessary inclusion into your project’s specifications. The Adjust-a-Sink adjusts a full 12 inches vertically to provide maximum comfort to both the resident/patient and the stylist/caregiver. The unit is designed to be used with either a chair or a wheelchair.
The residents of a healthcare facility cannot be served properly with sinks designed for the able bodied. The Adjust-a-Sink provides a safe and comfortable solution for the hair care needs of seniors and persons with disabilities.
Adjust-a-Sink® features offer a wide range of benefits.
- Ease of Use. The Adjust-a-Sink offers 12 inches of true vertical travel, and the easy-to-use foot pump mechanism allows the bowl to be raised or lowered to accommodate the stature and condition of the salon client. It works with either the client’s wheelchair or a traditional salon chair. The neck of the bowl can be raised from 34” to 46” to ensure a comfortable fit. An easy-to-use stainless steel foot pump controls the elevation of the bowl. Stainless steel and coated steel components won’t rust and are easy to maintain!
- Safety. The salon will be safer – with the Adjust-a-Sink there is no need to transfer clients from their wheelchair to the salon chair. Additionally, the bowl design minimizes water splashing and spillage on surrounding floor areas, reducing the potential for slipping accidents/injuries.
- Comfort. The bowl adjusts to ensure a comfortable fit for most all statures and physical limitations. The desire to look one’s best does not diminish with age or disability and the Adjust-a-Sinks helps to make the hair care experience one of dignified comfort. The adjustable bowl height also helps reduce stylists’ back strain that is commonly associated with working at low-mounted bowls.
- Reduced Liability. The improved fit of the client’s neck to the bowl greatly reduces neck strain and even possible stroke – reducing facility liability concerns. See the Sept./Oct. 2006 Stroke Smart Magazine article entitled, Beauty Parlor Chairs May Cause Strokes.
